Bruce Hutchison, Secretary

After being laid off in May 2009 and deciding to retire after 37 years in the high tech business, Bruce was excited about being able to devote more time to community service.  Since fly fishing was a big passion for him, Bruce joined TU in June 2009 and accepted the position of chapter secretary. He moved from the California Bay Area to Loveland, CO, in 1972 to take a job with Hewlett Packard.  In 1990, Bruce transferred to HP’s Colorado Springs facility and has lived here ever since.  For the past 22 years, Bruce has been active as an adult leader in Boy Scouts of American and currently serve as the Charter Rep for Troop 66 and Pack 166.  He is a certified Fishing and Fly Fishing merit badge counselor and helps Mark Taylor teach the fly fishing merit badge at Camp Alexander.

Bruce took up fly fishing 8 years ago when he received a $195, 9ft. 6wt. Redington fly rod for his 30-year company anniversary gift.  He found it quite funny when one of his fly fishing work colleagues quipped, “That gift is really going to cost you.”  Little did he know how right he was!  Bruce has been an active member of the Pikes Peak Flyfishers since 2003 and finds it to be a tremendous source of information, fishing opportunities, and lasting friendships.  When one of the PPFF founders, Ed Watts, passed away last year, Bruce took over Ed’s practice of baking two pies for the monthly door prize drawings.  Bruce fishes mostly local waters but did have the opportunity to enjoy extended fishing trips to New Zealand in 2008, and to Wyoming in 2009.  One of the highlights of his Wyoming trip was a unforgettable float trip down the Green River with past CMCTU president, Jack Hunter, followed by a wonderful steak dinner at Jack and Jeanne’s home in Pinedale.  As Secretary of CMCTU, Bruce appreciates the opportunity to contribute to our chapter and participate in our projects and workdays.
